The Lawson's built their ThermaSteel home on Buffalo Bayou with the first floor 26 feet above the high water level. The Lawson's and their neighbors had every reason to feel safe from flooding. Then came Hurricane Harvey. When the flood gates were opened it caused the water to rise 33 feet and homes on Buffalo Bayou that had never experienced flooding were suddenly underwater and the Lawson's had over 4 feet of water in their home for over 11 days.
Everything inside the home was destroyed. But what about the house itself? Only the exterior walls and roof were built of ThermaSteel, and as the photos show, they sustained no damage and look they new after a bit of hosing of. The interior wood stud walls were a total loss and had to be rebuilt from scratch.
